Future Continuous Tense

The Future Continuous Tense is one of the four sub-divisions of The Future Tense. Future Continuous Tense refers to ongoing/unfinished actions which will be taking place in the future. “will be going” and “be going to be doing” are the two forms of Future Continuous Tense.

The structures of the Future Continuous Tense along with the examples are as follows:

1. Sub + shall/will be + v4 + obj. (Affirmative i.e. Positive Sentence)

For Example:

  • They will be building a new bridge.
  • I will be painting.

2. Sub + shall/will not + be + v4 + obj. (Negative Sentence)

For Example:

  • They will not be building a new bridge.
  • I will not be painting.

3. Shall/Will + sub + be + v4 + obj? ( Positive Interrogative)

For Example:

  • Will they be building a new bridge?
  • Will I be painting?

4. Shall/Will + sub + not + be + v4 + obj. (Negative Interrogative)

  • Will they not be building a new bridge?
  • Will I not be painting?

5. Wh-word + shall/will + sub + be + v4 + obj? ( Wh-question)

Where Future Continuous Tense is used?

Future Continuous Tense is used with actions/events that will be progressing in a certain time in the future.

  1. They will be playing soccer.
  2. I will be enjoying the ceremony.
  3. He will be studying Psychology.
  4. She will be cleaning the terrace.
  5. We will be enjoying picnic.

Future Continuous Tense is used with At this time + future time period

  1. He will be cooking dinner at this time next Friday.
  2. She will be dancing at this time on the stage next Saturday.
  3. They will be wrestling next Sunday.
  4. I will be marrying at this time after two weeks.
  5. We will be watching the play at this time next Wednesday.

Future Continuous Tense is used to make guesses.

  1. They will be getting a big cheque from the insurance company very soon.
  2. She won’t be leaving the job any time soon.
  3. Charles will be taking the responsibility of the crown very soon.
  4. He will be teaching in a University.
  5. She will be taking care of her siblings.
